Glory of Manila

Centro Escolar University's School of Eduaction-Liberal Arts-Music-Social Work COMPASS Chapter held its 5th Praying with the Scriptures that carried the theme "Follow me! John 21.19" at Luwalhati ng Maynila Last May 25, 2011 from 8:00 am to 11 am.

Luwalhati ng Maynila is a home for the aged administered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Manila City goverment which is located within the 23-hectare Boys Town compound in Parang, Marikina.

These senior citizens are mixture of those who are picked up from the streets and are placed in a government run home either because their families cannot be located or refuse to take them in. Some of them voluntarily went to DSWD and asked if they can stay at Luwalhati ng Maynila.

Each of them have different stories why and how they are there and each one of them will touch your heart.

We started the activity with a prayer followed by a morning calisthenics led by Dr. Jonathan Catapang, the PE Department Head of CEU. Unexpectedly our Dean and our COMPASS adviser asked me and my other classmate to join in leading the exercise. (Hindi ako handa, kaloka! Pero syempre GO parin para kina lolo't lola. Exercise with SMILE and cheer. Hahaha.) The grandparents really enjoyed the calisthenics with the beat of "One Way Ticket" etc. (Mga tugtugan noong kapanahunan nila.) They even asked for a copy of the songs. :)

Group 1

Our lolos and lolas were divided into 5 groups and one prayer leader from each group came from the teaching and non teaching personnel of CEU. Within their group they introduced themselves, read the bible particularly John 21.19 and shared their insights and prayed their petitions and the healing prayer of Padre Pio de Pietrelcina.

Group 2 led by Dr. Catapang (upper left picture) whom also led the morning calisthenics.

This activity aims to provide an opportunity for the participants to deepen their faith through group praying with the scriptures...
